General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has said that punishment should be meted out to whoever had committed fraud and malpractices. He mentioned that a vital responsibility is vested in the people’s representatives to refrain from engaging in fraud and malpractices. The Minister was responding to queries raised by journalists in the Negombo area.
The Minister said that whoever was engaged in corruption and malpractices, they will have to face punishment. There is no argument. He said that people’s representatives are entrusted with more responsibility than others to work against fraud and corruption and refrain from engaging in such irregularities. As such if anyone of them have committed a mistake, the Minister pointed out that punishment should be meted out to them irrespective of their positions. He added that they would not look at it in a political angle.
