The Ministry of Law and Order and Southern Development is planning to grant promotions to 3029 Sub Police Inspectors.
Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake has given instructions to formalize and expedite the strategy of granting promotions in the Sub Police Inspector Service which was developing as a major crisis in the Police Service. Accordingly 3029 officers serving in the Sub Police Inspector Service may be promoted to the rank of Police Inspector. 2426 officers who had completed a service period of eight years in the Sub Police Inspector Service will be promoted to the rank of Police Inspector. Based on this strategy obstacles that so far existed for Sub Police Inspectors to the rank of Police Inspector will be eliminated. 320 officers who had so far served as Women Sub Police Inspectors for a period of eight years are also due to be promoted to the rank of Women Police Inspectors.
A decision in this respect was reached at a discussion held yesterday by Minister Sagala Ratnayake with Senior Deputy Inspectors General and higher officials in the Police at the Ministry of Law and Order and Southern Development. The Minister was expected to direct the related proposal to the National Police Commission today. Necessary steps have also been taken to direct this proposal to the Cabinet if necessary.
