United National Party Habaraduwa organizer Chandralal Abeygunawardena has said that some are duping the public when Government revenue was being earned sans burdening them. He refuted allegations that tax was being levied from essential commodities.

He said that no one would be permitted to destroy the good governance administration established with dedication. The people had been misled saying that VAT was being imposed on coconut, betel, sugar, tea leaves and dhal. Vat is not bein g imposed on these commodities. It is Government revenues that is being earned without burdening the public. A harbour, an airport and a cricket stadium have been built in Hambantota. The people of this country have to compensate on the expenses incurred on these projects. He said that the Government has imposed VAT to recover these expenses. He added that this programme would be launched island wide to save the people from these false campaigns.
Mr. Chandralal Abeygunawardena made these references joining in a programme to educate the public in the Habaraduwa electorate on VAT. He said that this programme will be mooted countrywide with the intention of saving the public who are deceived with respect to VAT.
