President warns University students not to sabotage their education

President Maithripala Sirisena has called on all University students not to sabotage their education. He said that problems if will be resolved. He called on all University Students Federations to support in carrying forward the education of students successfully.
A discussion on Private Universities between the President and representatives of University Students Federations was held at the President’s Office. The Government is geared to find a reasonable solution acceptable to all in relation to the issue that has surfaced on Private Universities. The President announced at this discussion that he was engaged in discussions with all parties concerned.
University student representatives expressed their views at length on the proposals that could be submitted in securing solutions to the issue concerned.
The President told the meeting that action would be initiated in the future to sort out the issue after soliciting the views of Deans of Faculties, Student Union representatives, officials of the Sri Lanka Medical Council and the University Grants Commission, the management of the Malambe Private Medical College and other concerned parties.
Student representatives pointed out that proper attention was not directed, although protests were raised with respect to the Private Medical Colleges during the previous regime. The student representatives said that they were optimistic that the Government would find a reasonable solution to this problem in view of strengthening free education in the country.
