President receives award for commitment to mitigate climate change

A conference on the impact of climate change for the development of the country was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena in Colombo today.

The President was presented an award for his commitment towards mitigating climate change. The award was presented to President Sirisena by RavinBasnayake, President of the AmCham on behalf of its Board of Directors.

Opportunities and Challenges for Business as a result of the Climate Change in the present world came up for discussion at this conference. The event was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce.

President Maithripala Sirisena joined in the Conference as the Chief Guest. The initiatives taken by the President as the Minister in charge of Environment Portfolio, came in for acclamation.

The keynote address at the conference was delivered by Prof. Sir Robert Watson, the Strategic Director of the Tyndall Centre of the United Arab Emirates. He pointed out that the world should focus more attention on Climate Change.  He mentioned that the emission of carbon to the environment should be minimized. He pointed out that Sri Lanka remained at a better level when compared with other countries. Prof. Sir Robert Watson lauded the steps taken by Sri Lanka in the generation of renewable energy.

The President received an award for his commitment towards mitigating climate change. The award was given by Ravin Basnayake, President of the American Chamber on behalf of its Board of Directors.
