President Maithripala Sirisena says investigations in connection with corruption and fraud from year 2008 should be conducted as per the recommendations given by the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Issuance of Treasury Bonds
While delivering a special statement on the bond issue today, the President pointed out that the commission has recommended that auditing should be done initially regarding the alleged corruptions and irregularities and legal action should be taken based on such information.
President Maithripala Sirisena said that the recommendations have been given by the commission to take measures to avert possible such incidents in the Central bank in the future. It has also recommended to pass a new financial monitoring act in the parliament.
A new law should also be introduced relating to the securities, as per the report. The President noted that according to the report, regulations need to be changed as the Governor of the Central bank to be appointed under the endorsement of the constitutional assembly. It has also been recommended to regulate the auditing process and re-organize it.
The final report of the Commission was handed over to the President on 30th of the last month. Judge P.K. Chitasiri served as the Chairman of the Commission and Judge P.J. Jayawardena and Retired Deputy Auditor-General V. Kandassamy were the other members.
