President Maithripala Sirisena returned to the island after
a successful two day official tour in India. Considering the President’s tour as an honor, the Indian Government has decided to name the entry road to Saanchi University and the Park by his name. President Maithripala Sirisena returned to the island last night. The President who attended an anti-corruption Summit in Britain, arrived in India on an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President attended the ceremony to unveil the statue of Anagarika Dharmapala at Saanchi Vihara. President Sirisena offered a casket to the Saanchi Vihara to mark the historic occasion. Chief Minister of India’s Madhya Pradesh Sivaraj singh Chawhani said that steps would be taken in future to name Saanchi University entrance road and park under the President Sirisena’s name. The President paid homage to the Sacred Relics of Sariyuth and Mugalan Arahats and received the blessings of Maha Sangha. Chairman of the Maha Bodhi Viharaya Venerable Baanagala Upatissa Thera said that in future Maithripala Sirisena name would be among the names that are linked to Saanchi Viharaya.
