President Maithripala Sirisena undertook a visit to the Defence Headquarters Building Complex which is under construction in Akuregoda. Thereafter he joined in an inspection visit to the Lotus Tower which is under construction.
The new Defence Headquarters Complex building is coming up in the Akuregoda area. President Maithripala Sirisena visited the site this morning. During this visit the President made inquiries into the progress of work. The President gave instructions to officials to discuss any problems with the related sectors and sort them out. Accordingly, the President instructed to expeditiously complete the work on the project.
The President also had cordial discussions with the project engineers. Senior military officials including Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake and President’s Secretary Austin Fernando joined the President in this visit.
Meanwhile, the President also inspected the construction work on the Lotus Tower which is the highest in the South Asian region. The President who had discussions with the Engineers gave instructions to make the work on the Project more efficient. After the construction work is completed the height of the tower would be 350 metres. It will be equipped with a three storeyed luxury shopping complex, a restaurant, reception halls and an observation studio. The Engineers informed the President that it is planned to complete all constructions related to the project by March next year.
