The International Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations has conferred a special award to President Maithripala Sirisena, recognizing the mission of him to eliminate the drug menace.
The award for President Maithripala Sirisena was presented at the recently concluded International Conference of the International Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations in Macau, China.
The International Conference of the International Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations has been established with the support of 40 countries and 87 non-governmental organizations in the world was held on the 08th of November, in Macau.
The award which was conferred to the President was handed over by Dr. Sarath M. Samaraweera, the President of the Federation.
The prudent and wise leadership given by President Maithripala Sirisena to eliminate the drug menace, and the decisions taken to eliminate tobacco use in Sri Lanka by 2020, has been commended, at the event.
In addition, this award is also meant restoring Buddhism’s moral and spiritual values in the journey of drug prevention.
Meanwhile, the President presented the award which was given in the name of Ven. KupiyawatteBodhananda Thera in Macau. The award was presented to the venerable thera for the services rendered by him for more than 3 decades to suppress the drug menace.
