Meanwhile President Maithripala Sirisena has found solutions to the issues of the farmer fraternity within the Welioya colony.
President Sirisena undertook an observations visit to the Welioya colony with the intention of looking into the problems confronted of the farmers. They told the President that the main problem they are confronting a serious drinking water issue. The President informed that a permanent programme will be launched to sort out this issue. These people took the initiative of apprising the President of the dearth of teachers in the schools in the area and also the unemployment problem confronted by the youth. The President announced that separate officials will be appointed to look into the issues of these people and grant immediate relief to them.
President Maithripala Sirisena said that he arrived in Welioya knowing that the people in the area were facing many problems. He queried from the people whether they were encountering a drinking water issue.
The people said they were facing this problem and it was seriously affecting three villages. Although temporary water was being provided they lacked water. They said they cannot drink the water that is in their wells as it is salty.
In response to question raised by the President, the people said that although Mahaweli water was supplied to them it was not a solution. They said that their wells have gone dry these days and they cannot find water.
The President said that he would take immediate action to sort out the water issue and the kidney patients issue as well as the problems they are facing in selling their paddy harvest.
