President assures there is no curtailment of Samurdhi benefits

President Maithripala Sirisena has emphasized that Samurdhi benefits will not be slashed or curtailed. There is a large number that are entitled to but are not receiving the Samurdhi benefits. The President underscored that other than granting them this privilege there is no intention of curtailing it.
The President said that Samurdhi benefits are being given go nearly 1.5 million families in the country. In a survey carried out at present he said that he saw that Samurdhi benefits had been curtailed and even demonstrations were being staged. But he said that he wished to give an assurance that the Samurdhi benefits will not be curtailed at all.
The President pointed out that the allocations made to provide benefits for Samurdhi families have not been cut. The President said that there are many families that are eligible for Samurdhi benefits were not receiving them. He added that the Government planned to grant Samurdhi benefits to these families too.
The President was speaking at a function organized for the handing over of 5000 land deeds to the farmers within the Walawa Zone. The event was held at the Embilipitiya Gam Udawa Grounds. 5000 land entitlement documents were handed over to the farmer community in the Walawa Zone under the national programme of distributing 100,000 lands deeds among the Mahaweli people.
Further expressing his views on the occasion, President Maithripala Sirisena assured the launch of a new programme within the agricultural industry to strengthen the economy of the farmer community as well as the national economy. The Government’s plan is to implement a programme to attract the youth generation through the modernization of the agricultural industry.
The President pointed out that it is the onus of the state officials to fulfil without delay the consolidation of the land ownership of the people and other activities sans any delay. The President emphasized that in such instances, no consideration should be given at all to any political party affiliations or other difference.
