Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake has said that the present Parliament cannot be dissolved until the completion of four and a half years.
Addressing a function held to mark the opening of Panadura main office of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, he pointed out that there is no possibility of such a dissolution based on the Constitution. The Minister said that in 2021, former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa or Chandrika Kumaratunge cannot contest the Presidential election. They are not permitted by the Constitution to do so. He also said that the present Government will remain in office for four and a half years. The Minister pointed out that they could remember how Prliament was dissolved when they wanted and secure power. Now it has been changed and if the people had entrusted five years for this Government, the necessary legal framework has been accorded for the Government to rule that period. The opening of the SLFP main office in Panadura took place under the patronage of Minister Duminda Dissanayake and Panadura SLFP Organizer Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe. Several people’s representatives were present on the occasion.
