PM wants to make Sri Lanka a country winning the world through sports


Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says that Sri Lanka should be made a country that will win the world through sports with the implementation of proper plans. He pointed out that the foundation for this effort should be laid from the school.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a function organized for the launch of the National Sports Development Programme.
The launch of the National Sports Programme under the theme “Let’s get ready today to win tomorrow” took place under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. The programme is jointly being launched by the Sports and Education Ministries. The prime aim of this effort is to take sportsmen and women portraying talents and skills at the school level to international level. More attention will be drawn to the health of these sportsmen and women.
Further expressing his views at this function, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe assured that the allocation of grants for the development of sports at the school level will be increased.
Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam also expressed their views on this occasion.
Sports gear were distributed among schools parallel to this event.
Meanwhile, the Henry Pedris Stadium which is under the Colombo Municipal Council was awarded for sports activities of Isipathana Vidyalaya. This event also took place under the auspices of Prime Minister ranil Wickremasinghe. The Principal and the Past Pupils Association of Isipathana Vidyalaya had made a request from the Prime Minister to provide this stadium for sports activities of the school.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister requested Minister Faizer Mustapha to take the necessary action.
Minister Malik Samarwickrema were among the Parliamentarians present at this function.
