PM urges Swiss Forum to use SL as hub for South Asia

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that the Sri Lankan Government has launched a formal and systematic economic plan to regain the position the island nation enjoyed thousands of years ago as the trade and economic hub in Asia. He pointed out that by the year 2030 investors will be vested with the task of creating Sri Lanka’s economic plan. He emphasized that Sri Lankan Government would be providing all facilities needed for the creation of this map.
The Prime Minister was addressing the Sri Lanka Investment Conference organized in parallel to the World Economic Forum.
The Prime Minister told the meeting that many special programmes have been started to encourage investors arriving in Sri Lanka. He revealed of plans to establish a Development Agency instead of the Board of Investment and the Economic Development Council. The Agency will enable all investors to meet their services from one centre. Premier Wickremasinghe emphasized that more opportunities would be given for projects that would be generating jobs. The intention of the Government is to create an investment friendly environment with relaxed regulations.
The investors lauded the reconstruction programme mooted by the Sri Lankan Government strengthening good governance. They said they would further expand investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.
Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran apprised the investors of the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka.
Ministers Ravi Karunanayake and Malik Samarawickrema were among those who were present at this Sri Lanka Investment Conference.
