PM geared to resume the journey to become a great nation treading on King Parakramabahu’s path

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has pointed out that it was King Parakramabahu who imparted to us the concept of competitiveness in the export economy. He said that the country should follow suit and embark on a journey to become a great nation.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the 18th Anniversary celebration of the Young Lankan Enterprise Board. Further expressing his views on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the previous administration staged the Presidential election to overcome the heavy debt.
The Prime Minister said that it was under the King Parakramabahu that the country’s maximum export economy was achieved. He understood the value of spices and cinnamon and as such the cultivation of spices was undertaken in that area. It was also during the period Parakramabahu that grains and black gold were exported. One was exported to Asia and other to Arab countries and Europe. It was from here that funds came and as such the Prime Minister said that it was Parakramabahu who imparted competitiveness to the country. What Sri Lanka should do now was to follow his example.
Referring to loans, the Prime Minister said it needed no mention again. He stated that an early Presidential election was called for as the previous administration was unable to manage the loans. He added that Sri Lanka was fortunate to get the leadership of Maithripala Sirisena.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala and Minister Dayasri Jayasekara were among those present on the occasion.
