Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said that exceptional literature
productions would have been witnessed if there were extremists in the past. The Prime Minister made this reference participating in the “Poets for Coexistence” concert.
The event organized by the Ministry for National Coexistence, Dialogue and State Languages was held at the Ape Gama premises in Batttaramulla under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. Poems were rendered in Sinhala and Tamil Languages.
Participating in the function, Premier Wickremasinghe said that that the promotion of poetry, literature and cultural values can help to build reconciliation and co-existence in the country.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of building national reconciliation, peace, and religious harmony among the communities to achieve better results and output on literature productions. He was confident that reconciliation and unity can be established among the communities with the help of poems written on this subject. The Prime Minister added that there is a strong relationship between the poetry and the history of the country. The Tamil and Sinhala leaders should understand the values of poems and other literatures which could help to build real reconciliation among the communities.
Ministers Mano Ganeshan and A.H.M. Fowzie were among the large gathering present.
