Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe arrived at Kataragama Kirivehera premises to attend the Esala procession festival. He took part in religious observances and received the blessings of the Maha Sangha. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe called over on Chief Prelate of Kirivehera Raja Maha Viharaya Venerable Kobawaka Dhamminda thero. Discussions were also held on the development activities of the South. The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the Prime Minister who took part in religious activities near Kirivehera. Thereafter, he participated in religious practices at Kataragama Maha Devalaya and other shrines. Prime Minister Wickremasinghe opened the ‘Aloka Pooja’ and attended the commencement of the procession. Several public representatives including Minister Sagala Ratnayake were present on the occasion. The Esala Perahara festival was commenced on the 05th and it will end on the 20th of this month with the water cutting ceremony.
