President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the playground is the Centre for Reconciliation. He further said that if politicians had stepped into the playground, a deterioration would not have been witnessed in the political field.

The launch of the Sports Star Sports Festival was held at the Embilipitiya Mahaweli grounds under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. It was joined by sports trainers and sports officials representing the nine Provinces in the island. Sports events are being held for these officials under six age groups.
The President said that the playground is the best centre for reconciliation. There are no colour, ethnic, religious differences in the playground. As such the President said that the playground may be in the town or village within the nine Provinces, should become the Centre for Reconciliation. The President said that they expected to mould virtuous and disciplined citizens by grooming skilled sports men and women. Also if the politicians have played a prominent role in sports, he believed that they would be more disciplined. He said that it is very clear from the incidents that take place that politicians had not stepped onto the playground, as discipline and patience had been properly developed there.
President Maithripala Sirisena presented awards to10 retired officials who displayed their skills during their term of office. Ministers Dayasiri Jayasekara and Thalaltha Athukorala, Deputy Minister Dunesh Gankanda, Sabaragamuwa Governor Marshal Perera, Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Mahipala Herath, and Provincial Sports Minister Athula Kumara Rahubedda were among those who joined in the occasion.
Meanwhile, the President declared open the new Surgical Theatre, the Intensive Care Unit and the Wards Complex of the Embilipitiya General Hospital. The expenditure incurred on these projects to overcome the many shortcomings of the hospital, was 1000 million rupees. The President after opening the wards complex joined in visiting the wards. The President who admitted the first patient to the Male Ward. It was President Maithripala Sirisena who launched the construction on the five storeyed building complex of the hospital. The total expenditure expected to be incurred by the Government on the development of the Embilitipiya General Hospital is 5700 million rupees.
