Families of the three people who were killed in the conflict took place in the Kandy district were paid compensations, yesterday.
It was decided to pay compensation to the people who lost their lives and property due to the recent conflicts in the Kandy district at a meeting that was held at the Kandy District Secretariat under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Rehabilitation Authority was assigned to pay the compensation to the victims. The compensations were given at the private residences of the people who lost their lives. The cabinet has granted its approval to provide a maximum of 500,000 rupee compensation to the families of the three deceased people.
The estimations pertaining to the property damages are on the progress. Minister D M Swaminathan stated that compensation will be done to the property damages soon after the cabinet approval is given. Meanwhile, the Muslims who were affected by the conflicts in Kandy were granted dry rations under the patronage of Bishop Rev. Kumara Illangasinghe. People in Digana, Kengalla, Pallekelle, Kundasale, Katugastota and Uduwawala areas were given the dry rations.
