The President has created a path to sort out issues through
negotiations. As such this path can be used fruitfully sans being a political pawn. These observations have been made by Shantha Bandara President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Youth Front. Shantha Bandara was speaking at a news briefing held at the SLFP Head Office expressing views on the Hambantota Harbour protest.
Shantha Bandara said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is making arrangements to hold the first District Convention in the Badulla District on January 15th on the day the President completes his second year in office. From then onwards the Youth Front of the SLFP will hold Conventions in all Districts. It will be followed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party National Convention.
Shantha Bandara also welcomed the decision taken to increase the fines imposed on those who transgress road regulations.
Shantha Bandara said that the deaths caused by road accidents are higher than the deaths that resulted due to terrorism. As such laws should be enacted to end this chaotic situation. He said that if anyone says that imposing a fine for a person who is at the wheels after liquor is not appropriate, he is not aware of the aim of persons who make such statements. He added that the necessary initiatives that should be taken to build the country and strengthen it economically, had to be taken. The country would not develop if measures that should be adopted are not taken in fear of protests and demonstrations.
