The Pada Yathra aimed and holding poojas in Kataragama has commenced from the North. Those who joined in the Pathra will be travelling a distance of 400 kilometres by foot. The devotees will take 15 days to reach Kataragama and they have been granted permission to walks through the Kumana National Park.
Devotees from the Okanda Devale premises at Panama in Ampara joined in the Pada Yathra that commenced today. Eastern Province Wildlife Assistant Director D.M. Weerasinghe officially opened the gate for this group of devotees to pass the Kumana National Park. Relief teams have been deployed to supply these devotees with drinking water and medical facilities. In the meantime a group of devotees from the Nallathaniya area commenced a Pada Yathra today.
