Owners of five shops in Horana arrested for selling unhygienic food

The Government has launched several operations to ensure the health security of consumers arriving in the town due to the festive season. Accordingly as a result of a special joint operation carried out in the Horana town, owners of five shops that sold food unsuitable for human consumption were taken into custody.
The operation was launched with the participation of health officers of the Horana, Ingiriya and Bandaragama MOH offices. Many expired food items were seized.
A stock of expired ice cream cones worth nearly 50,000 rupees and liquid and material parts containing insecticides were also detected. Public Health Inspectors also succeeded in detecting food items stocked in an unsuitable manner in super markets and also several locations with mosquito larvae.
The Public Health Officers adopted measures to institute legal action against the five traders taken into custody.
