A special program to improve nutritional standards of pregnant mothers took place under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena in Kandy today. A special program organized by the Central Province Governor’s office to distribute nutritional sacks and dry rations to pregnant mothers took place this morning under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. The program is implemented with the aim of improving maternal health in the Central Province. More than 1,000 pregnant mothers of the Central Province were given nutritional sacks and dry rations. The President also attended the lunch that had been prepared for pregnant mothers at the President’s House in Kandy. He met I.P. Nandasena and Indra Kalyni of Udunuwara who donated their son’s heart, for a heart transplant. The President exchanged views with them and expressed his appreciation for their worthy act. A group of people including Deputy Minister Anuradha Jayaratne, Central Province Governor Niluka Ekanayaka, Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Marshal Perera, North Central Province Governor P.B. Dissanayake, Southern Province Governor Hemakumara Nanayakkara and Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake were present on the occasion.
