Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that a new Unit comprising Public Health Inspectors will be launched to control leprosy. The Health Minister made this reference during a discussion held with a group of representatives of the Leprosy Control Programme in England.
A special discussion on how the Sri Lanka Leprosy Control Unit should collaborate with the Leprosy Control Programme of England was held at the Health Ministry. The discussion was held under the patronage of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. The meeting was joined by a group including Shehan Arulanandan, head of the Leprosy Mission, England.
The England delegation said that they were experiencing difficulties in meting out treatment to leprosy patients. They further said that more attention should be focused on the patients when undertaking treatment as they were experiencing various social problems.
The Minister said that a new Unit comprising Public Health Inspectors will be launched to control leprosy. Officials including Health Secretary Anura Jayawickrema joined in this discussion.
