Leading countries in the world that had destroyed the environment are now taking the forefront in protecting the environment. This observation has been made by President Maithripala Sirisena. He was addressing the Environment Conference held in Ratnapura.
The Ratnapura District Environment Conservation Conference was held in Ratnapura under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. The Conference commenced with the planting of a Na sapling near the Seevali Grounds in Ratnapura. The theme of the Conference was a “Green Era, a Stable country and a Maithri Administration.” More than 3000 joined in this conference. It is planned to hold such environment conferences countrywide in the future.
Further addressing the conference, President Maithripala Sirisena said that action should be adopted to enact new regulations, if the laws prevailing for the regulation of land in the Ratnapura District are weak.
A special feature supplement of the Dinamina newspaper titled “Ruwanpura Punarudaya” was presented to the President. Awards and certificates for persons and institutions that launched environment friendly projects were presented by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Among the large gathering present were many Parliamentarians.
