Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake told Parliament today that initiatives will be taken to adopt a new Act instead of the Terrorism Prevention Act.
Member Udaya Gammanpila said that the Government gave an assurance that the Prevention of Terrorism Act would be annulled. He queried whether the Government is still continuing to undertake arrests and whether it believes there is a trend of terrorism raising its head.
Minister Sagala Ratnayake said that they planned to adopt a new Act instead of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. He said that at present they were not using the Prevention of Terrorism Act. He said it had not been used for six months. The Minister said that they were taking initiatives to bring forth the new Bill soon.
