Neketh Seettuwa handed over to the President


President Maithripala Sirisena has received the traditional document, the Avurudhu Neketh Settuwa for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Cultural Affairs Minister S.B. Nawinna and Ministry Secretary D. Swarnapala presented the Neketh Settuwa that lists the auspicious times for the customs to be followed during the traditional New Year.

The handing over of the Neketh Seettuwa took place at the President’s Official Residence. Auspicious times for the dawn of the New Year, the Punya Kalaya, the lighting of the hearth, cooking of the first meal, partaking of the first meal and official transactions and oil anointing, are included in this official document.

A group of Parliamentarians including, SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake and Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya joined in this occasion.
