Motor accidents kill seven; 41 hospitalized

Seven persons have died and another 41 have been wounded in three motor accidents. It is high time that proper initiatives be taken to prevent such accident and save valuable lives.
Five persons have been killed in an accident reported in the Pudukkadu Dharmakeni area along the Kilinochchi-Palai main road. The Police have said that the accident had resulted due to high speed driving. The accident had occurred following a head on collision of a private bus plying from Jaffna to Vavuniya with a van running from Vavuniya to Jaffna. Four passengers of the van were killed on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital. Six others who sustained injuries are being treated at the Palai Hospital. The Police have apprehended the bus driver.
27 persons sustained injuries in an accident that happened near the Gelanigama interchange on the Southern Expressway. The accident occurred when a passenger bus collided with a truck.
In the meantime, another accident happened along the Mahiyangana-Badulla Road near the Dambarawa Bridge when a lorry collided with a van. The driver of the van and a woman were killed in this crash. Another 10 sustained injuries. Of them three are reported to be children.
