Modern technology knowledge vital to move forward as a fully-fledged nation in the world – President

President Maithripala Sirisena has underlined that knowledge on modern technology is vital to move forward as a fully-fledged nation in the world. The President laid this emphasis launching the International Alliances Network of Sri Lanka Telecom that will promote international relations.
Sri Lanka Telecom has joined the International Alliances Network with the intention of launching a new era in Information Technology. Many countries have joined this network through cables along sea routes. The launching of construction work on the centre that will store data of the International Alliances Network took place under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Expressing his views thereafter, the President said that acquiring modern technology is vital to undertake transactions with the world.
The President said that it is the responsibility of the Government to provide the people of this country and specially the new generation the advanced new technology in the world. As such he said that basically, within the policy of this Government, priority has been given to link the people of this country to new technology. The President said that he believed in the management of the resources, and in the handling of the economy and for other fields such as education, health, agriculture and other industries needed by the people, the country could become a fully-fledged nation in the world, acquiring knowledge on modern technology.
Minister Harin Fernando also addressed the function.
Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Susil Premajayantha and State Minister V. Radhakrishnan were among those present on the occasion.
