Following the launch of work on the South Asia’s Largest Kidney Hospital in Polonnaruwa, a major group suffering from the kidney disease will be able to gain much benefits in the near future. The number of patients suffering from the kidney disease in the country when the present Government assumed office exceeded 21,000.
The National Kidney Hospital is being constructed at a cost of 12,000 million rupees with financial assistance from the Chinese Government. The Hospital will have four floors. It will have a bed strength of 200. It will be equipped with six surgical theatres and 100 dialysis units.
The President laid the foundation stone for the launch of construction of this hospital and the Government is desirous of expediting the work on the hospital. The disease which rapidly spread during the term of office of the previous regime, is now impacting the lives of people in 18 Districts.
Noteworthy will be the location of the world’s state of the art laboratory with the completion of work on the hospital.
