Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said that all Manpower workers will be given permanent appointments. He further said that no manpower workers would hitherto be recruited.
The Minister said that when he assumed office one third of the workers were serving as manpower employees. They granted permanent appointments to around 2,500 in the first two months. He said he planned to absorb the remaining manpower workers to the Electricity Board within the next two months submitting a Cabinet memorandum, after seeking solutions to take them to the permanent cadre.
Minister Siyambalapitiya said there was also a group serving as meter readers for eight to ten years. He said that he is ready to absorb them to the Electricity Board as permanent employees. He added that in future no one would be taken in as manpower workers.
The Billing Officers Union said that as a result of this decision taken by the Minister of Power and the administrative authorities, they have agreed to call off their fast staged for more than 20 days.
Northwestern Chief Organizer of the Billing Officers Union said that the Minister of Power and the Deputy Ministers as well as the Administrative authority have given an assurance to grant their appointments by June 30th. As such they have decided to call off their fast.
