Maha Sangha lauds President’s attempts to protect historic heritages

President Maithripala Sirisena has given instructions to the authorities concerned to take immediate measures to fill vacancies of senior officials of the Department of Archaeology.
The President made this observation while discussing the mechanisms of protecting archaeological sites and relics. The special discussion for the protection of archaeological sites and relics was held at the President’s Office. President Maithripala Sirisena recently issued instructions to the relevant sectors to deploy the Civil Defence Force for the security of archaeological sites. Steps were taken to look into its progress. President Sirisena further instructed the authorities concerned to direct attention to remove obstacles to safeguarding historical sites and in order to engage in archaeological protection.
The Civil Defence Force Director General pointed out that members of his Department had been deployed for the protection of identified archaeological locations. Sorting out their residential issues was another topic to which attention was directed.
The President during the meeting also underscored the need to identifying sites of historical importance in the Northern and Eastern Provinces and protecting such locations.
The initiatives taken by President Maithripala Sirisena on behalf of protecting the historical heritages received accolades from the members of the Maha Sangha.
