The Ministry of Education has decided to temporarily suspend leadership training programs for school principals. The decision was taken following the death of a female principal at a leadership training session.
The Ministry of Education has also opened a comprehensive investigation into the death of the principal. Rohini Atapattu, the principal of Suchi International School in Hambantota succumbed due to the injuries following an accident she met during the training sessions.
The Ministry of Education states that the leadership training programs for the principals will be halted till the investigations pertaining to the incident is completed. The leadership program was initiated to improve personality and other characteristics of the school chiefs.
The Ministry announces that an unfortunate incident had taken place even though the authorities have instructed the trainers to ensure best practices in safety, health and other basic factors of the participants. The deceased principal had attended two leadership training programs in Rantembe and Kuda Oya, previously. She had also served as a cadet officer.
