The Disaster Management Centre said that the disaster warning issued yesterday for the Matale and Kegalla Districts still prevails. Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili called on the people to be further vigilant on the disaster situation even though the rainy conditions have eased. Pradeep Kodippili said that the National Building Research Organization yesterday issued a warning for two Districts.
Pradeep Kodippili mentioned that the people of the Matale and Kegalla Districts should be vigilant on any landslide situation. Even though a disaster situation had not been witnessed, heavy rain has been experienced in the Kukuleganga area and its environs. As such a sluice gate has been opened. Therefore he called on the people living in the low lying areas to be on alert. The areas include Bulathsinhala and Agalawatte. He said that the Kalutara District had experienced a heavy rainfall today.
The Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre pointed out that the hotline 117 is operative. In addition 0112 670 002 and 0112 136136 are operative for all disasters communications.
Meanwhile, the Police have cautioned drivers to be vigilant on the fog conditions prevailing in the Haputale Beragala area along the Badulla Colombo highway. The Police have urged the drivers to switch on their lights as this situation is witnessed during the night and early morning.
