The National Building and Research Organization says that the landslide
threat issued for the Kurunegala, Badulla, Moneragala and Ratnapura Districts is still effective. The landslide threat for these districts was issued at 8.30 pm yesterday.
Head of the National Building and Research Organization R.M. S. Bandara called on the people living in these Districts to exercise extra vigilance.
Mr. R.M.S. Bandara said that yesterday they had to name four districts and several Divisional Secretariat Divisions affiliated to it. They named a Divisional Secretariat Division within the Moneragala District, while four Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Badulla District were also named. They were Passara, Badulla, Bandarawela and Haliela.
They cited one Divisional Secretariat Division in the Ratnapura District and it was Imbulpe. Mawathagama, Pallawapitiya and Ridigama were the Divisional Secretariats that they had to name in the Kurunegala District as areas threatened by landslides. He pointed out that sometimes they will have to alter these areas or add more areas. This decision will have to be taken after 24 hours with effect of 8.30 p.m. yesterday.
He added that the National Building and Research Organization was focusing attention on the rainfall that is being experienced.
