The weapons burglary that happened at the Laggala Police was reported recently. The OIC of the Traffic Division of the Laggala Police on the night the incident took place had allegedly thrown a liquor party within the Police barracks.
Accordingly action has been taken to suspend to interdict the OIC Traffic Branch Sub Inspector Mahesh Priyanga with effect from today.
Five revolvers and a T-56 weapon were looted from the Laggala Police on the night of April 13. The Criminal Investigations Department launched an inquiry during which it was revealed that a liquor party had been held in the barracks. It was the OIC of the Laggala Traffic Branch who had initiated action to hold the liquor party.
Matale Assistant Superintendent of Police N.J. Weerasinghe said that the Laggala Traffic OIC who allegedly held the liquor party was interdicted for the disrepute caused to the Police due to the weapons theft.
