Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to the United States has been released on strict bail conditions. The Court enlarged him on bail taking into consideration on his health situation. The Former Ambassador was arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division on the 18th of November last year on charges of misusing state resources amounting to 332,000 US Dollars during the previous regime. It has been mentioned in the medical report submitted by the Director of the Hospital that former Ambassador is receiving treatment and he is suffering from many illnesses. Considering this report Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne released him on a cash bail of 50,000 rupees and two sureties of one million rupees each. Banning foreign travel, the Magistrate ordered him to submit his passport to the Court.
