The Appeals Court has extended the interim injunction order
against the ban on ‘full face helmets’ until August 03rd.
This direction was given after the Attorney General’s Department informed that the new regulations are yet to be drafted. The Attorney General requested for three months for the drafting of the regulations. The request was made when three writ petitions calling for an order to prevent the ban on the use of the full face helmet, were taken up for hearing today. The case was considered by Appeals Court President Judge Vijith Malalgoda and Judge Preethi Padman Surasena.
The petitioners said that it is important to use full face helmets to minimize the damage caused to lives in the rapid increase in motor accidents. The police earlier decided to ban full face helmets with effect from March 21, 2015, to halt crimes and burglaries committed by people covering their faces using full face helmets.
