Investigations with respect to the Habeas corpus petition filed with respect to the abduction of five students in Dehiwala have been completed. This petition mentioning that these students had been abducted from the Kotahena and Maradana areas in the year 2008 had been filed by their parents. Inquiries with regard to this Habeas corpus petition were completed today. The Attorney General’s Department filed the related written submissions. Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe said that the report concerning the inquiry would be submitted to the Appeals Court in the future. A Habeas corpus is a writ requiring a person under arrest to be brought before a judge or into court, especially to secure the person’s release unless lawful grounds are shown for their detention.
