The Ministry of Health has announced that the Dengue epidemic situation has arisen in the country. Therefore the Ministry has cancelled leave of health workers in 30 MOH divisions. 47 thousand Dengue patients have been reported so far and 77 of them have died due to the disease. The Health Ministry said that Dengue epidemic situation has been reported in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Jaffna, Kurunegala and Ratnapura Districts. Health Minister Rajitha Senaratna has instructed to implement continuous Dengue eradication programmes to prevent the disease. The Health Ministry said that the situation could become serious if rains occur during next two months. The Ministry has taken steps to issue the Gazette notification to impose a fine of 25 thousand rupees for those who keep their environment suitable for the breeding of Dengue mosquitoes.
