It has been decided to implement a new strategy for the distribution of drugs for hospitals and Government Drugs Stores. The Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has drawn its attention to undertake the distribution of drugs through a courier service.
A discussion with respect to formalizing the drugs distribution programme was held under the patronage of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. It was organized at the Health Ministry. It was emphasized at this discussion the need to secure a courier service for the distribution of drugs for hospitals and drugs stores.
Expressing his views at this discussion, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that the drugs mafia was still in place. The Minister said that action would be initiated to change the tender procedure in the future. He pointed out that the price of any drug could be obtained from websites of drug companies.
Minister Rajitha Senaratne revealed at this discussion that a drug which could be purchased at a price of 24 Indian rupees in India was sold at a price of 3000 rupees in Sri Lanka.
