Health authorities say that individuals who are above the age of 20 years in the North Central Province and people in other areas who are more than 30 years old should undergo kidney tests. About 5,000 kidney patients are reported annually in the country. The number of kidney failure has increased due to diabetes. However there is an unidentified kidney disease in Anuradhapura. Many people say that the disease is a result of excess use of agrichemicals. The Government has launched a special programme to control kidney diseases. Director of the National Kidney Centre consultant Dr. Rathnasiri Hewage said that a kidney test is important to minimize the danger of being affected by kidney disease.
