Gramophone era vocalist Vivienne Boralessa passes away

Veteran female vocalist of the gramophone era and the country’s senior-most songstress Vivienne de Silva Boralessa passed away. She passed away this morning at the age of 86.
Vivienne de Silva Boralessa who was an A Grade vocalist of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, started singing when she was barely eight years old. Minister Gayantha Karunatilake who visited her house last week inquired into her wellbeing.
She was awarded with several unique awards in recent years especially for her longstanding contributions to the music field. These include state awards, Kalabooshana Awards and the Award for singing the highest number of Buddhist songs.
Her songs like Dura Pena Theni Thala, Nangi Nangi Rupika, Nawathinna Tissa, Sambudu Mangalle, Budu Magula Langama Ewi, Ma Sanghabodhi and others will linger in the memories for generations to come. She is survived by her two daughters and four sons. The funeral is scheduled to take place at the General Cemetery Kanatte on Wednesday at 5.00 pm.
Her remains are lying at No. 162/15, Samanala Mawatha Talahena.
