Government mulling over introduction of a dengue vaccine


The Government has drawn its attention to the provision of a vaccine for the dengue disease. Health sectors claim that a reduction of dengue patients is now being witnessed.

A special discussion was organized at the Health Ministry for the provision a vaccine for dengue. The discussion was held between Minister of Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne and a researcher on the dengue disease Prof. Scott B. Halstead. A special Committee has been appointed for the registration of the dengue vaccine. He has arrived in the island to provide the necessary advice.

A special media conference was held at the Government Information Department immediately after the discussion.

Expressing his views to the journalists at the news briefing, Chairman of the National Drugs Regulatory Authority Dr. Asitha de Silva declared that the dengue vaccine is a complex one and they were in the process of studying it for the purpose of registration of the vaccine.
