The most valuable wealth of a person is the eyesight. If anyone notices any defects in the eyesight it is opportune to seek immediate treatment from a Government Hospital.
Today is the World Sight Day. Around one million of the local population are suffering from various eye diseases. According to the Health Ministry cataract is main among them. The Health Ministry further pointed out that around one million cataract surgeries will have to be conducted within the next five years.
The Government has taken the initiative of providing lenses free of charge for those who will be undergoing cataract surgeries. The people claim that this is a great relief accorded by the Government to eye patients who are undergoing such surgeries due to the economic hardships they suffer.
A walk organized by the Vision 2020 programme to mark World Eyesight Day was held today from the Vihara Mahadevi Park up to the Independence Square. It was held under the patronage of Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala.
Doctors who perform cataract surgeries were feted on the occasion. A photographic exhibition titled “United with Strength” was organized. Several programmes were also organized in addition to the conduct of an eye clinic at the Pinwatte Purana Raja Maha Vihare in Dehiwala.
