The Government Information Department says that the Government has launched an investigation into the assault of a journalist during the unrest at the Hambantota Port yesterday. The Government Information Department has pointed out that the root cause of the incident is the negligence of the journalist who went to cover unrest at Hambantota harbor, to follow minimum ethical standards when reporting conflicts. The department states that this was revealed during preliminary investigations. The statement issued under the signature of Director General Ranga Kalansuriya states that they hope journalists would adhere to accepted ethics when reporting on sensitive conflicts. The personal intervention of Navy Commander is needed in an incident such as this according to international naval transport and security laws ordinance. The Navy says that their Commander was at the Hambantota Port according to that international law.
