The Government has launched a programme to pay compensation on behalf of house and property that are fully or partially damaged due to the calamity. As such the Government has called on the affected persons to intimate such damages to the Grama Niladhari of the area and get registered.
The Government has already acquired 10 Billion Rupees through an insurance scheme in order to allocate funds in this regard.
Accordingly, measures will be taken to provide a sum ranging from 100,000 rupees to 2.5 million rupees for flood and landslide victims whose properties were completely or partially damaged.
In the meantime, the Government has issued instructions to the Treasury to release sufficient cash sans limits to grant relief to the affected families. The Treasury has already released a sum of 200 million rupees to extend all assistance to these disaster struck families.
The Ministry of Disaster Management has made arrangements to continuously meet all the requirements, including dry rations, of all families who have taken shelter in the relief camps, until they return to their homes. A formal programme at the state level is already in place to meet the future requirements of the disaster struck people.
The Government Information Department has called on all donors who are willing to provide assistance on behalf of these persons to make their donations to Account No: 7040171 of the Bank of Ceylon Independence Square Branch in Colombo 07.
