One of the two children injured at the shootout in Piliyandala and admitted to the National Hospital has died. The 11-year old girl who was receiving treatment had died this morning. Three children were injured in an attack unleashed at a group of officials of the Police Narcotics Bureau in the Piliyandala area. These three children were consuming food in a nearby hotel along with their parents. One of the children was discharged from hospital after treatment. The two other children were receiving treatment at the National Hospital. It was one these children that died early this morning. In the meantime, several teams including that of the Criminal Investigations Department have embarked on investigations for the arrest of the suspects linked to the attack.
Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa took action to grant financial assistance yesterday to the three children who were injured in this incident on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena. Also Minister Sagala Ratnayake visited the National Hospital yesterday and inquired into the condition of the children. One Police officer of the Police Narcotics Bureau was killed and several others including Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa suffered injuries in this shoot out.
