Five lorries that were transporting refuse tea from Kandy to Colombo have
been seized. The Kadugannawa Police said that three lorries were seized last night while two others were seized earlier.
The stock of refuse tea had been transported from the Udunuwara area in Kandy. Two lorries contained a stock that was to be exported. These had been shrewdly packed in boxes after being dried up as the tea stocked in Colombo, had been soaked in floods. There were 2800 kilograms in this stock.
The Katugastota Police said that in all there was a stock of more than 20,000 kilograms of refuse tea in all the five lorries. The drivers of the two lorries that were seized earlier had been produced in Courts, while the Police said that the three suspects of the other three lorries were due to be produced in Courts.
