Fifth stage of Drugs Free Country launched in Kurunegala


The Government is shouldering the national task of building a country free of drugs as narcotics have become a menace at present. The Government is facing the challenge of liberating the people from this menace launching a number of programmes. It is under the full mediation of President Maithripala Sirisena that the national drugs prevention programme has been started themed “A country Free from Drugs.”

The seventh stage of the national drugs prevention programe was launched in Kurunegala under the patronage of the President.  Several programmes were held parallel to this event.

The people of the Kurunegala District were educated within the Kurunegala town under the programme of a country free from drugs. The Presidential Narcotics Prevention Voluntary Force, the Sri Lanka Police, the Civil Defence Force and many Government officials joined in this programme. In addition to educating the people through the distribution of leaflets, programmes including street dramas and cultural pageants were held. Kurunegala District Presidential Special Project Director Shantha Bandara and officials of the President’s Office joined in the occasion.

In the meantime, the Voice of Women’s Organisation organized a procession under the theme “A Country free From Drugs.” The women joined in this procession from Kurunegala to Maligapitiya along with a memorandum. Around 150 women participated.
